Nursery & Pre-K Programs

 

 The following is an overview of our Nursery/Pre-K Program for three-year-olds.

This program offers a choice of 3-day or 5-day full-day classes.

Our learning focused on the following:
  • Daily prayers and lessons about our faith
  • Stories and literacy activities
  • Learning rhyme, repetition, and concepts through songs
  • Color, shape, and number recognition
  • Daily calendar and counting numbers
  • Working with hands-on manipulatives
  • Learning through games and movement
  • Completing art projects to build up fine motor skills
  • Beginning pre-writing skills (tracing and holding a pencil)
  • Social studies - family, safety, feelings, community
  • Science - "healthy me", weather, seasons, animals, and more

Specials include Gym, Music, and Art

Being with our classmates and participating in daily activities will help us...
  • Increase our small and large motor skills
  • Listen and follow directions
  • Increase our social skills and self-confidence
  • Develop our self-help skills
  • Take responsibility for our actions and personal items
  • Build up our attention span
  • Encourage the development of our verbal skills
We offered the following Nursery classes:

3 day - Monday/Wednesday/Friday

5 day - Monday through Friday

Children must be 3 by December 1st of the current year to enroll in the following year.

All classes are in session from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm and follow the school calendar.

All children must be potty trained.

WE DO NOT ACCEPT TEACHER REQUESTS.

The Holy Family School Pre-K Program for 4-year-olds offers a choice of 3-day or 5-day full-day classes.

  The following is an overview of our Pre-K Program for four-year-olds.

Language Arts:

Phonemic Awareness

  • Begin to hear rhyming words
  • Begin to identify words that begin with the same sound

Pre-Writing Skills

  • Tracing of shapes, lines, squiggles, etc.
  • Making own shapes
  • Printing name
  • Printing alphabet letters

Pre-Reading Skills

  • Recognize letters of the alphabet - upper and lower case
  • Recognize the beginning sound of some alphabet letters
  • Identify own name in print
  • be able to print name
  • Left to right progression
  • Able to follow 2-3 step instructions
  • Able to predict outcomes
  • Complete projects
  • Encourage the use of imagination

Religion

The religion program is called I AM SPECIAL and DISCOVER GOD'S WORLD. Our religion lessons will teach us about God's love for us and how He has created many good things for us to enjoy. Our Pre-K attends First Friday Mass.

Math Skills:

Through math activities, children will interact with a variety of manipulatives such as blocks, plastic bears, candy, cereal, and shapes to explore the concepts of -

  • Numbers - recognize numbers 1-20
  • Shapes
  • Quantity - more or less
  • Sequencing
  • Patterns
  • Measurement
  • Understand words inside/outside, over/under, top/middle/bottom
  • Calendar, counting numbers

Science:

Through science activities, children use their sense to explore and understand -

  • Seasons
  • Weather
  • Planes and Animals - learn how they grow
  • Senses
  • Nutrition
  • Safety
  • Dental Health

Social Sciences:

  • Feelings
  • Address/phone number
  • Family
  • Community - learning about jobs people do
  • Traditions/cultures
